Step 7: Final Sealing & Finishing
Please read before you start the installation.
The building envelope must be correctly prepared with weather-resistant barriers that meet local and state codes. All frame and sill surfaces must be correctly prepared for air, water, and structural integrity by the builder or contractor before attempting installation.
We recommend a high-level installer or a team trained as Luvindow certified installers
⚠️WARNING:
Windows and doors are heavy. Use safe lifting techniques and a reasonable number of people (or suction cups) to avoid injury and/or product damage.
MATERIALS AND TOOLS
Fastener Schedule (General Guideline)
- Wood Frame: #10 Wood Screws (Min. 1 1/2" embedment)
- Concrete/Masonry: 3/16" Masonry Screws (Min. 1 1/4" embedment)
- Steel Frame: #10 Self-tapping Screws (Min. 3 Threads)
Note: Installers are responsible for ensuring material quality and compliance with local codes.
Required Tools
- Laser Level (Crucial for heavy doors)
- Drill with Bits & Impact Driver
- Air Wedges & Shims (Non-compressible)
- Suction Cups (For glass handling)
- Framer’s Square & Tape Measure
STEP 1: VERIFY ROUGH OPENING
Before installation, verify that the Rough Opening (R.O.) sizes are correct. Usually, the R.O. size is 3/4” - 1” wider and higher than the actual frame size.
- Check Sill Level: The sill plate must be absolutely level. Use a laser level. Shim if needed. (Critical for Bi-fold and Slide operation).
- Check Square: Measure diagonally. Differences must be within 1/8”.
- Check Plumb: Side walls must be vertical.
STEP 2: ASSEMBLE FRAME
Most Luvindow systems are shipped Knocked-Down (KD) and require on-site assembly.
- Lay out the Top Track, Bottom Track, and Side Jambs on a clean floor.
- SEALING IS CRITICAL: Apply silicone sealant at the cross-section of the Bottom Frame ends before connecting to the side jambs. Failure to do this will cause leakage.
- Connect the corners using the factory-supplied screws. Ensure the frame is square.
STEP 3: SILL FLASHING / SILL PAN
Flashing or Sill Pans must be used in every installation.
- Apply formable self-adhering sill flashing or install a rigid sill pan into the opening.
- Ensure the flashing extends 6” up both jambs (Legs).
- Do not place the door unit directly on the sill without shims/sealant gaps for drainage.
STEP 4: INSTALL THE DOOR FRAME (Universal)
Method: Drill-Through & Metal Brackets (Dual-Anchoring)
- Position: Place the assembled frame into the rough opening. (Check depth for screen requirements).
- Shim: Place shims at the bottom (diagonal layout) and sides.Note: Place shims at the same locations as the fasteners to prevent frame bowing.
- Level & Plumb: Use a Laser Level. This is the most important step.Lift & Slide: If the track is not level, the door will drift.Bi-fold: If the head jamb is not level, the panels will bind.
- Fixing:Drill Through: Screw through the pre-drilled holes in the jambs into the framing.Cap Holes: Apply sealant into the screw hole, insert the screw, tighten, and cover with the provided plastic caps.
STEP 5: INSTALL THE DOOR PANELS
► OPTION A: For LIFT & SLIDE DOORS (152S)
📺 VIDEO INSTALLATION GUIDE:
Visualizing the sash installation is critical. We strongly recommend watching the 152S installation video before lifting the panels.
Key Steps Summary:
- Stationary Panel: Install the fixed panel on the exterior track first. Push it tight against the side jamb. Secure using the Corner Brackets (S.T.4.2*50 screws).
- Sliding Panel:Lift the sliding panel (using suction cups) and insert the top into the Top Track (deepest channel).Swing the bottom in and carefully lower it onto the Bottom Track (stainless steel rail).
- Handle Installation:Install the spindle and base.Position: When the handle points UP, the door is Locked (Dropped down). When the handle points DOWN, the door is Unlocked (Lifted up).
► OPTION B: For BI-FOLD DOORS (90S)
📺 VIDEO INSTALLATION GUIDE:
Bi-fold installation involves complex hinging sequences. Please watch our official installation video before proceeding.
Key Steps Summary:
- Hardware Prep: If hinges/rollers are not pre-installed, attach them to the panels according to the shop drawing labels (e.g., Panel 1, Panel 2).
- Hang the First Panel: Usually, the panel attached to the side jamb (Pivot Panel) goes first. Secure the top and bottom pivots.
- Add Subsequent Panels: Connect the second panel using the hinges. Slide the rollers into the track.
- Adjust Height: Use the adjustment screws on the top/bottom rollers to raise or lower the doors so they operate smoothly and seal tightly.Tip: Maintain an equal gap (reveal) between the top of the panel and the header across the entire width.
STEP 6: TEST & ADJUST
For Lift & Slide (152S):
- Operation Check: Turn handle down. The door should lift up and glide effortlessly. Turn handle up. The door should drop down and seal.
- Alignment: If the door rubs, check the frame level again.
For Bi-fold (90S):
- Folding Check: Slide the doors fully open. They should stack neatly without hitting the wall.
- Traffic Door: Check that the independent swing door (if applicable) latches and locks smoothly without lifting.
STEP 7: FINISH THE INSTALLATION
- Foam: Fill the gap between the frame and rough opening with low-expansion window foam.
- Clean: Cut away excess foam once dry.
- Seal: Apply high-quality exterior sealant (Silicone) around the entire exterior perimeter.
- Weep Holes: Install weep hole covers. DO NOT BLOCK WEEP HOLES.
- Protection: Remove protective films and clean the glass.
